KEYNOTE SPEAKER - Tom Szaky from Terracycle
The Missouri Recycling Association announces Tom Szaky, CEO and Founder of Terracycle, and star of the new reality show “Human Resources,” as featured keynote speaker at the annual Missouri Recycling Association Conference, September 14-16, 2015 in Blue Springs, Missouri.

Hear the inspiring story of one company’s mission to “Eliminate the Idea of Waste.”

FEATURED SPEAKER - Elizabeth Cline
The book, OVERDRESSED: THE SHOCKINGLY HIGH COST OF CHEAP FASHION, has changed the way thousands of people around the world think about their clothes, helped to set in motion a revolution of sustainable and ethical practices in the global fashion industry, and established ELIZABETH L. CLINE as a leading thinker on the issues of fast-fashion and the globalization of the apparel industry. In the book, Cline set out to uncover the true nature of the global fashion juggernaut, tracing the rise of fast fashion retailers and discounters, and the roots of our obsession with deals and steals. She travels to factories in China, follows the fashion industry as it chases even lower costs into Bangladesh, and looks at the impact (both here and abroad) of America’s drastic increase in imports.
Cline explores how cheap fashion harms the charity thrift shops and textile recyclers where our masses of clothing castoffs end up. And more important, what are they doing to us, our society, our environment, and our economic well-being.
Special thank you to USAgain, St Louis Department of Public Health, MARC Solid Waste District, and the St Louis Jefferson Solid Waste District for sponsoring Elizabeth.
Elizabeth will speak on Tuesday, September 15th at 9:00 AM

FEATURED SPEAKER - Chris Ladd
Christopher Ladd, is the Director and CFO of The Closed Loop Fund. Chris leads investment due diligence as well as administrative, financial, and risk management for Closed Loop. Previously, he led a Strategy and Finance team dedicated to providing support to Walmart Sustainability. While at Walmart, Chris worked on Waste, Transportation, and Energy projects, including several that focused on increasing Walmart’s recycling rate and closing commodity loops. Before Walmart, Chris worked in TPG Capital’s Ops group, where he provided post-acquisition execution and support and KSL Capital on the buy-side.
In April 2013, Walmart convened 30 recycling, consumer product and supply chain experts to discuss how to increase recycling in the United States. The participants cited systemic challenges that shared the same root cause: cities lack or do not have access to the capital required to invest in the infrastructure needed to increase recycling rates. The convening led Walmart and Ron Gonen to co-develop The Closed Loop Fund.
The Closed Loop Fund has been formed with invested capital from manufacturers, consumer goods companies, retailers, and recyclers who are committed to helping cities in North America achieve high recycling rates.
