Joins us for some of the best BBQ and beer that Kansas City has to offer! The event will be held at The Urban Lumber Company--a company dedicated to making the most out of Kansas City's local natural resources, specifically its neighborhood trees.
Since 2005, Urban Lumber has been taking trees that are discarded as waste and sawing them up into usable lumber.
Special thanks to Missouri Organic for helping make this event possible.
Shuttles will transport attendees to and from Urban Lumber and the hotel
Tour #1 Monday, September 14 9:00 - Noon
Historic Union Station Built in 1914, Union Station encompasses 850,000 square feet of amazing space that originally featured 900 rooms. In her prime as a working train station, she accommodated hundreds of thousands of passengers each year. Closed in the 1980s, Union Station sat empty and neglected, narrowly escaping demolition on several occasions. Then, in 1996, a historic bi-state initiative was passed to fund the Station's renovation, which was completed in grand fashion in 1999. Union Station is once again a majestic and desired destination and draws tourists from all over the world.
Join us as we tour Union Station and marvel at her Grand Hall's 95-foot ceiling, three 3,500-pound chandeliers and the six-foot wide clock hanging in her central arch. Learn firsthand from Union Station personnel about the joys and challenges of working in a historic structure that has been repurposed for the 21st century.
Transportation will be provided to and from Union Station and the hotel. You will be returned to the hotel in time for lunch on your own. Several restaurants and fast-food establishments are located within a short distance of the hotel.
Tour #2 Wednesday, September 16 9:00 - Noon
Arrowhead Stadium and Avenue of Life Mattress Recycling Arrowhead Stadium is home to the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs. Tour participants will learn how waste and recyclables generated by more than 79,000 fans are collected and managed by stadium staff.
After Arrowhead Stadium, we'll head over to the Avenue of Life's mattress recycling facility where you'll get to see first hand how mattresses are deconstructed for recycling. Employees and interns deconstruct old mattresses, diverting waste from the landfills, and then sell the commodities to be used in the manufacturing of new products.
